(Ivanhoe Newswire) -- It takes just seconds to make a first impression. You're judged on your voice, gestures and appearance. For women in the business world, it's especially important that a first impression exhibits confidence and strength. Here are some tips on how to make sure you come across the right way. |
Even though she's appeared on TV and works one-on-one as a personal shopper, Kate Rice, a style expert, hasn't always been confident about her image. Kate sought help to overcome common obstacles that can make women appear less credible. Communications coach Carol Fleming trains women to be conscious of their voices. "A female is more likely to present with little girl voices," explains Carol. She shows women how to tone it down.

Carol gives an example, "I'm up here in my head voice right now and if you listen to me, you might think I'm younger or smaller. But if I talk to you like this, I've got more of a full body kind of resonance that says I'm a woman, not a little girl." Carol cautions women to beware of distracting gestures. Don't cock your head. Don't squirm or fidget. One way to catch yourself is to consciously practice the behavior while you're alone. |

Carol says, "Once you know how it feels to do it, then you can stop yourself as you feel yourself doing it." Carol says the ultimate sign of confidence is knowing who you are. That will translate in what you say, and how you say it. Carol says each woman has to find her own personal style, whether it's classic, sporty, dramatic or artsy. This will help you know yourself better and make it easier for others to see the real you.
