Speaking Your Mind Effectively
Do you know the difference between someone who is just talking and someone who is talking to you? Of course you do. It’s a matter of feeling connected, of relationship. Finding and forging a sense of contact in human communication is the first step in successful communication, be it conversation or public speaking.
CURRENT WORKSHOPS
Estimations of maturity and power are heavily influenced by the tonal characteristics of your voice. As a matter of fact, this is the most sought after change that people want in the sound of their voice. In response to these requests I will be offering a small group workshop to help you
~ Breathing 101
Let’s take a look at how you’re breathing and find out how to do it better.
We will:
- Provide exercises for shoulder tension and constrictions
- Focus on developing lung capacity for speech support
- Examine each voice for relative loudness, softness or breathiness
- Deal with issues of fading and projection
- Learn how to use breathing to achieve profound relaxation
Who needs this workshop?
People who:
- use their voice for a living: salesmen/women, teachers, exercise coaches, singers as well as media professionals
- run out of breath during speech
- feel voice fatigue or discomfort after speaking for some time
- get complaints that their voice is too soft or difficult to understand
Eight articles having to do with breathing will be provided upon enrollment.

LATEST NEWS FROM CAROL
- I was recently interviewed by both Gentleman’s Quarterly and Parenting magazines on the topic of voice pitch. The men are uncomfortable having voices that can be mistaken for a female’s voice, and women do not want to sound like ‘girls’. See a power pattern here? The lower the voice, the larger the body, the greater physical power. The law of the jungle is alive and well and present in our everyday relationships! Refer to my article, “Finding Your Giant Voice”.
- I am a speaker at The National Association of Asian American Professionals next week under the title, Women Who Make a Difference.
- I have been asked to return to Sandia National Laboratories to provide communication skills training for the very smart people they employ down there. I go again in September.
- I will be the speaker for the Forensic Expert Witness Association in the Fall. I will be listed in the Register of Experts and Consultants in Northern California.
I have joined the Board of Directors of the Hearing Society/ Bay Area, a bit of a ‘roots’ journey for me since I started as a speech pathologist quite some years ago.
